Google Search Console Tutorial (Free 2026)

Search Console Tutorial

Search Console is the first thing you do after launching your website. Many of you know exactly what this tool does, but we are going to check every tab and part of it separately. Actually, Search Console is the tool to index your website faster and make it visible much better to Google. After the AI revolution, we have many SEO tools to measure data or do the same things but at the end, Search Console has some features that you can’t find anywhere else!

What’s Search Console Like I’m 5.

Search Console is a marketing/SEO tool that launched in 2005 june to make websites more visible. Actually, the search console helps Google to analyze our data and show the best results to the users. You can add a simple code to your website or install a WordPress plugin for it to get started. Before adding your site to GSC, you need some knowledge about sitemap and indexed pages (without info, you can’t do much even for the easiest to rank keywords).

What Should I Do Before Adding Search Console?

Is search console good?

Search Console can be harmful sometimes!! When you have a private website, you have to hide it somehow.

First of all, if your site isn’t ready 100% don’t try to add it to Search Console! Google sees much faster with the search console so your website can get trashed because it’s spam or not ready. You can ask a Pro to do all these for you in 30 minutes without costing you much, but we recommend that you learn it yourself. Search Console is going to work great, especially for new sites, if you have a fast loading and Optimized (SEO) one. Don’t get stressed this soon! It’s going to be easy even for noobs as TheGOat is teaching you here.

1. Don’t serve trash food for your first client (Google)

Google wants to see beauties nowadays, not just some random ass WordPress themes without a single optimization. First of all, don’t forget the On-Page SEO things like title, description, keyword, meta and many more HTML tags that affect your SEO. To have a bright feature with Google, you need to think like a normal user and a Google bot at once. If it were 2010, you could easily rank up with some simple tricks like keyword stuffing and automated backlinks (GSA) but in 2026, only smart ones gain something in this competition. Let’s have an appetizer:

How to prepare site for search console

You should look like a nice restaurant (Fast speed) with good food (On-Page SEO)

  • Each page should have only one <h1> tag.
  • Don’t forget to add description, title and keyword meta tags for every page. In WordPress, it can be done with some plugins like RankMath and Yoast SEO.
  • Try to use inspect element to check CSS Classes or HTML tags. You can check the meta tags by doing this (Right Click + View page source) to have a little check for tags.
  • Never try to fool Google by abusing your main keywords on the whole site. Google is much smarter than you, so it’s just a waste of resources :D.
  • Your page speed can have a huge impact on the whole ranking. No one is using your site if it’s loading like turtle run. We have many speed optimization plugins and guides out there (all are free).
  • It’s better to have one or two blog posts linking to your main page without using AI tools. Writing content with Ai needs some skills that cost you time!
  • Create a sitemap with those SEO plugins without adding extra things like an image sitemap. Just add the main things like pages, posts and the categories.

2. Don’t make your site for robots only

As you can see, we don’t give a fuck about Google in this huge guide, while it’s so important for us. Sometimes you need to focus on humans only. After getting the traffic, Google will automatically bump your rankings even if they hate you. When someone is visiting your site for the first time, he/she needs to find what is needed, so don’t add 10k words just to rank (this method is ALMOST dead).

We have many AI image and code generators that help you to have a good-looking and fast site. For example, our blog images are generated by the ChatGPT free version in just a few seconds. You should use all the tools to milk money online and it can’t be easy.

Search Console Tutorial 2026 Updated

1. Registering a Domain

First of all, you have to add your website to the panel. You can go to the search console with a Gmail account to get started! After visiting the URL, you will see a page like the image below. There are two ways for this:

How to add site to search console

  • Domain: This covers your entire host, including all its domains, such as subdomains and email domains. We recommend that you use the second way, as it shows data for a single domain.
  • Prefix: You just need to copy and paste your website URL in the field.

After all these, you need to use one of the verification methods. Actually, all of them are easy but you can choose whatever you want!

Verify site on search console

You have 4 different ways to verify your ownership!

  • HTML File: There is a small file that should be uploaded to the public_html (root) folder.
  • HTML Tag: Google gives you a <meta> tag in this way. Just copy and paste that in your heading (between <head> </head>).
  • Google Analytics: This option is for those who have had their analytics panel before. If you have no idea about the search console and are reading this article, then this one can’t be a good choice for you.
  • Google Tag Manager: GTM is a great tool from Google to control your website tags easily and more professionally.
  • Domain name provider: You have to change and add more DNSs to your domain.

If it’s done, just press the verify button to get started. Google doesn’t show any data for new sites in the first days, so don’t get disappointed if you are not seeing anything yet.

2. Overview Tab

Search console overview tab

In Overview, you can check almost everything in one sight. It’s not that important for you!

As you can see in your own panel, this tab contains all your necessary info on a single page. You can call the Overview “Dashboard” of Search console, and it’s very important to check it every day and see what’s happening.

  • Performance: Shows a general chart of your total impressions and clicks in the selected time.
  • Recommendations: If one of your links is doing badly or great, you can see why and how to make it better.
  • Indexing: Total indexed/not indexed URLs and their problem (if any).
  • Experience: In this section, there are all of your links’ page speed for mobile and PC. Google shows an error if you don’t fix them as soon as possible.

3. Insights Tab

Search Console Insights

The insights report is one of the greatest new options that you can have. This tab shows some of your best and worst performing pages with their clicks and impressions. Sometimes, one of your best blog posts can get dumped by Google and you need to know this fast (You can fix it in some ways – How to update an article for Google).

This part can play a huge role in the new sites with long tail keywords targeting, you can improve your content and get more traffic just by optimizing it a bit.

4. Performance Tab

Search Console performance tab

Performance is the tab that you are going to see every time. It shows you almost everything like total clicks, impressions, countries, keywords and much more. Now let’s explain all things related to this one:

  • Total Clicks: You can choose the time from the top left and check the total incoming users from Google. These clicks are only from Google search and your direct users are counted here!
  • Total Impressions: It shows how many times your site has been on the SERP. Sometimes users just see your URL without opening it, so you just get an impression without a click.
  • Average CTR: CTR means “Click Through Rate”. If your site gets seen 100 times on search results and gets only one click of those, your CTR will be 1%.
  • Average Position: You can check your keywords’ current ranking (it’s 90% accurate, depending on your search IP).

NOTE: Your site should be fully optimized for mobile devices, as 90% of the traffic comes from mobile users!

NOTE 2: There is an export option if you want to show the results to anyone!

5. URL Inception Tab

Search Console URL inception

There is a “Live test” button for every page on the top right. With that, you can see your page’s problems!

Actually, this one doesn’t have a separate tab for itself and there is just a search input at the top of your panel for this! With URL inception, you can check your URLs indexing status and see what the problem is with them (Your URL can have some major problems that keep it no-indexed or not qualified).

NOTE: With “Request Indexing“, you can make Google visit and index your URL faster than usual.

6. Pages Tab

Search Console Page tab

In here, all your URLs are stored with their indexing status. Google can easily ignore your content if you are having thin content or a spam looking website. Because of this, you always need to keep your website legit and fast loading.

  • There are impression options right on top, with which you can see how many impressions your indexed and not-indexed pages are getting.
  • At the bottom of the page, Google shows a full detail about all your pages combined. Some of them are hard to solve, but mostly it’s “Crawled, currently not indexed“.

7. Sitemap Tab

Search Console Sitemap

All websites should have a full, detailed sitemap in XML or HTML format. A sitemap helps Google and other bots to find your new, updated and old URLs much easier. If you are using a CMS like WordPress or Joomla, there are many free SEO plugins to do this fully automated. But if it’s a programmed website, you need to ask your coder to do it for you. The last choice is an online sitemap generator! You can find hundreds of them with a simple search.

You have to add your sitemap like the image, don’t add the whole URL in that form, paste everything after the first slash. Sometimes you see “Cloudn’t Fetch” for your site because you blocked Google bots from indexing it.

8. Removals Tab

Search console removal tab

You can easily de-index or clean your URLs from snippets with this option.

If you need to delete a single URL or multiple URLs, just use the Search Console removal tool and remove them from SERP. There are two options here:

  • Remove one URL: You copy/paste the URL needed to be removed and submit the request! It usually takes 1-24 hours, depending on your site quality.
  • Remove the Whole path (Prefix): For example, you are having many articles in the documentation category with this url https://site.com/documantation/… so you remove them all by their path, not just one by one.

Now, the Search Console has a new feature to remove snippets from your links. Snippets can increase your CTR but sometimes it gets messy!

9. Core Web Vitals Tab

Core web vitals in search console

Core web vitals show very useful details about your page speed. There are 2 different charts for PC and mobile devices. Actually, you always get a higher page speed on PC and because of that, Google added 2 charts. For new sites like Palasht, you can’t do anything at the start! To check your page speed, right-click and press inspect, open the Lighthouse tab at the top, then press Analyze page load. It takes up to 1 minute to check both versions of that single page.

  • Green Line: Acceptable speed.
  • Orange Line: Needs some improvements.
  • Red Line: Not acceptable.
